Selena would be damned if she could not remember this face. She had just returned from her morning stroll in the Vantage complex, checking things around her workplace, almost forgetting the gym challenge she had today. She was just glad it was someone familiar.

Unfortunately, she only knew him as manofsteal. Fortunately, he was more bubbly than his serious online counterpart.

“I can’t believe it,” Selena returned the welcoming demeanor with a wide grin. “You finally came to see me, mister...?”

Sharp amber eyes study her face. He recognizes her as the gym leader of Lilycove, of course, and she's some kind of journalist. He thinks he might've seen her in Littleroot, as well, though he knows she wouldn't recognize him from there. He'd been completely disguised.[break][break]

Failing to come up with an answer, he asks, "Do you know me from somewhere?"

As someone with a sharp memory, she got used to people acting surprised whenever she remembered something trivial. She would just dismiss it as somethinf only journalists have through years of training, but it was something she had ever since she was a kid.

Manofsteal—or Patrick Cavalli—as he called himself, looked the same as other people.

“Maybe I do,” she teased as she led him into the Kalosian doors that unraveled the entire studio hall. The Hoennian sun seeped into the open ceiling, gracing the battleground of the gym with its brightness. “You said you came here for my badge. Maybe I can show you something that will help you remember.”

“I’m good with that,” Selena uttered as she crossed the arena. She reached out something from her pocket, her hand revealed a glossy pink, heart-shaped token the size of a coin. “Here’s the Mystery Badge. This gym challenge is all about intuition.”

Upon placing her foot at an ornate engraving on the other side of the playform, a rack rose from the floor revealing sets of pokéballs where she picked one. The other pokémon was with her today.

“Show me your intuitiveness and maybe you’ll get the chance to claim this badge.”

Call it a journalist’s intuition but there was something about Patrick’s confidence that did not sit well with Selena. He seemed well-intentioned and kind, but she knew his true self would only be revealed through a pokémon battle.

She tossed Venus’s ball into air, its golden feathers shimmered at the seeping sunrays from the ceiling. Her graceful entrance was totally different from her opponent’s intimidating stomp on the ground.

“Men first,” she gestured her hand towards Patrick, insisting the challenger to make the first move.

Tyrantrum seems thrilled at the prospect of battle, continuing to snap playfully at her opponent whilst not making any move until Gavin gives her the signal.[break][break]

When he does, the dinosaur draws upon some ANCIENT POWER to summon rocks upon the battlefield, hurling them toward the elegant dragon.

In battle, Gavin is calm and measured, sharp eyes focused. Though he had expressed a playful arrogance at the start of the match, he shifts into something serious and determined when the true battle begins.

The altaria did not mind the incoming blast of ancient power—as its flesh glistened with the morning sun, its fur of cotton were enveloped with orange glow. Venus rushed towards the rocks, for although it would cause the bird harm, it siphoned enough energy from within as it transitioned into a form of pure beauty.

Selena realized what was happening when her bracelet also shimmered with the altaria when it mega evolved. She sneered, “Now it begins.”

Venus made her first move in. Still floating above the fossil arena, the avian’s eyes glew white before summoning tremors into the ground, an EARTHQUAKE manifested through its newfound powers.

Gavin is no stranger to the powers of mega evolution. He recognizes the glow and shift within his opponent and seems utterly indifferent to Selena's sneering confidence. As the earth quakes below their feet and Tyrantrum lets out a roar of pain, he simply plants his feet to maintain his own balance on the field.[break][break]

Inwardly, he's recalculating his strategy. He'd been planning to follow up with a Dragon-type move, but that was no longer a viable option.

It's Tyrantrum's favourite thing to hear: saliva drips from her jaws as she snarls and leaps for the mega-evolved Altaria. POISONOUS FANGS aim to bite deep with STRONG JAWS that will prove difficult to shake.

The tyrantrum soon retaliated with its strong jaws locking into thr altaria’s flesh. Poison seeped into its golden feathers and Venus could feel the strain taking on her, and yet the mega evolution gave her much adrenaline needed to decimate her opponent.

“Rain on her, quick!”

Selena talked about the blue wisps of flame forming around the gold-colored bird. Once the dragon’s attack connected with the altaria, the DRACO METEOR found its way into its rock body.

Though he knows it will spell Tyrantrum's doom to stay so close to the other dragon, Gavin calculates it to be a worthwhile loss if it can drag the Altaria down with it. At very least, it would soften it up for the next combatant.[break][break]

Though the meteors crash into her body and cause her a great deal of agony, Tyrantrum's POISON FANGS do not release their hold. Though Tyrantrum's special attack has taken a hit, the meteors have not altered the physical power of her bite.[break][break]

If they could just manage to poison the Altaria before collapsing...

Selena knew at this point in time that whatever she made Venus do would determine who has the upper hand in this battle. She was not ready to lose.

The tyrantrum continued locking its jaws into the altaria, and the bird howled in anger and frustration. Her golden feathers shimmered wih the sunlight once more, and the ROOST had taken effect. The bird dragon was invigorated.

The bright light faded with her stellar form, returning back to its original form.

“You think your tyrantrum can outlast my altaria? Heh,” the hint of satisfaction lingered in Selena’s voice, almost as if mocking. But she wanted to test how Patrick would fare amidst frustration. She needed to give a nudge.
